![]() Nothing Else Matters started with Lars assisting Kirk with a drumstick to the strings, and after the intro, it was just James for the first part of the song. "Give me an M, give me an E, give me a T.Gimme fuel, Gimme fire, Gimme that which I desire!" Fuel sparked off the first encore with yet another display of pyro - "gimme fire" - oh yeah, that they did.Īt last, a bit of a breather. Other than the two brand new songs, 1997's Fuel is the newest song played - nothing else from the Load twins, or S&M/Garage/M:I-2, most of the setlist was from 1991 and before. These guys are seriously not holding any back! Blackened hit next, with an amazing display of fire. Cliff, Jason, even Ron and Dave are represented in the visual timeline as the band played through the kick-ass version of the classic song off the first album. It started at 1981 and worked its way up to the present day. Just sit back, relax, mellow out, don't release that energy you've got.but most importantly, it's the one when you don't listen to what I just said." Soon after the riffs for Seek and Destroy have the crowd back in it. "This next song is the one when you guys don't sing and be really quiet. Absolutely killing us with the unbelievable variety of fast paced, in-your-face music. No Remorse was up next and by this time the band was taking no prisoners. Anger hits with a bit of dull thud, the song may be just a little too long to keep our attention, but nonetheless, it is one heavy motherfucker! Once those riffs hit the speaker system, the crowd lost it. "My lifestyle determines my deathstyle!" James did a 'sing-along with me' for a few verses of Sad But True, prior to the instruments kicking ass. ![]() The band slamed through Frantic with an amazing amount of energy. He lays down the opening intro to Bellz with Cliff Burton behind him on the video screens, banging away, slamming the strings along with the 'new 'old' guy.' Unending energy from Metallica's bass players! Robert Trujillo." Yeah right, 'new guy.' On stage he's the perfect fit, like he's been there for years and years. "I just wanna say, my name is James, this here is Kirk, back there banging the drums is Lars, and our newest Metallica family member, Mr. James then determined it was time for a little break, as he introduced the band. "Leave Me Alone" - the song sings right back in Fred's face. Limp Bizkit did an admirable job trying to update this classic, but man, there' is just something about the original that does the job better. "Welcome to where time stands still." Sanitarium chimes through the stadium again, for the second time. But don't worry fans, Rob and Kirk can pull double-duty just as well as Jason did in the past. But no, the band roared right into Harvester of Sorrow. The band started it off with a killer version of Battery, then charged straight through with the full version of Master of Puppets - you'd think they would have slowed down a bit, caught their breath and allowed us to catch ours. The lights were cut, the crowd erupted, Ecstasy of Gold kicked in and we booked it back to our seats. This band - seemingly rejuvenated by the presence of Rob Trujillo - comes out fangs bared and ready for blood. It certainly wasn't a concert for the casual Metallica fan (one that doesn't know the words to 'Blackened' - or even have the album 'No Remorse' was released on). Turn the Page" (originally performed by Bob Seger).(Taken from the Rockingham, North Carolina Speedway show on July 1, 2000) At the end of the tour Metallica played six make up shows, two for each show Hetfield missed. ![]() Newsted sang most of the songs during these concerts, and the vocals and rhythm guitar were also taken by musicians from the supporting acts, such as Kid Rock and his guitarists Kenny Olson and Jason Krause, Serj Tankian and Daron Malakian of System of a Down, and Jonathan Davis of Korn. Before the gig in Atlanta James Hetfield injured his back in a jet skiing accident and was forced to sit out three shows. It was also the final tour for long-time bassist Jason Newsted who quit the band in January 2001. Taking place in "stadiums, arenas, and yes, even speedways," the tour was one of the top grossing tours of the Summer. The Summer Sanitarium Tour was Metallica's packaged tour in the Summer of the year 2000.
